The Lunar New Year represents a time of renewal and hope, marking the beginning of a new cycle, where families come together to honor traditions and express wishes for prosperity and good fortune.
The primary goal of the Toronto Spring Festival Fireworks Celebration is to enhance community engagement by inviting diverse populations to participate in a shared cultural experience, promoting understanding and appreciation of Chinese traditions while celebrating the Lunar New Year in a festive and inclusive environment.

Meet The Committee

Blur Wu
Chairman
Blur Wu is the Founder and Chairman of Toronto Spring Festival non-profit organization and President of SPARK Media, a well-known event company based in Toronto, specializing in event planning, marketing promotions, and AV productions. SPARK Media has successfully produced thousands of events, including large-scale festivals, corporate events, fashion shows, talent shows, and more. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Blur is a dedicated community leader with a long history of serving the local community. Under Blur's leadership and planning, the first-ever Toronto Spring Festival Fireworks Celebration concluded successfully, witnessed and celebrated by almost 50,000 attendees, and has since become a widely recognized and highly appreciated international landmark event.

Shan Tao
VP, Strategic Outreach & Sponsorship
Shan Tao, Founder of MADE GOOD IMPACT Inc., is recognized for her collaborative leadership and expertise in brand strategy storytelling, expanding brand influence, driving key breakthroughs, and enhancing stakeholder engagement during the first-ever Toronto Spring Festival Fireworks Celebration. With exceptional strategic vision and strong networking capabilities, she has forged valuable cross-sector connections, aligning organizational goals with public resonance. Her efforts have played a pivotal role in bringing the celebration from concept to reality, elevating its public presence, and creating lasting impact.

Mia Yang
VP, Culture & Communication
Mia Yang is the Founder of ECHO Creative Media and she operates ECHO, a well-known social brand for young people in Toronto. During the first-ever Toronto Spring Festival Fireworks Celebration, she brought warmth and energy to the event with her exceptional hosting skills, engaging cultural exchange abilities, and strong community connection capabilities. Beyond setting the festive vibes on stage, she also played a key role in curating and promoting the cultural market, blending tradition with modernity to create an emotionally rich and authentic Spring Festival experience for the community.

Steven Sun
Honorary Advisor
Steven Sun is an outstanding representative of immigrants to Canada—a successful professional, industry leader, entrepreneur, philanthropist, community leader, and social activist. As a professional, he worked at IBM Canada for several years. As an industry leader, he served as the President of the Canada-China Realty Professional Association and a Director of the Real Estate Council of Ontario. As an entrepreneur, he founded multiple companies. As a philanthropist, he currently serves as the Chairman of the Real Estate Foundation, raising millions for the Yee Hong Senior Living community. As a community leader, he has actively participated in and held honorary advisory, presidential, or chair positions in over a dozen associations and organizations. As a social activist, he ran for city council in the 2022 municipal election.
In recognition of his contributions to society over the past two decades, he has received numerous accolades, including the Ontario Volunteer Service Award, Industry Leadership Award, Huacai Award, Social Contribution Award, Philanthropy Ambassador Award, Outstanding Achievement Award, Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal, King’s Coronation Medal, and the King’s Coronation Medallion, among many others.

Yang Yang
Honorary Advisor
Yang Yang is the Chief Executive Officer of Motion Play and Chief Strategy Officer of DIAN Motors Inc., and serves as President of the Scarborough York Region Chinese Business Association (SYRCBA). With nearly 18 years of experience in banking and financial services, she previously held senior roles at CIBC Capital Markets, including Director and Head of Strategy for China and Southeast Asia. She holds an Executive MBA from Queen's University Smith School of Business and a Bachelor's degree from Carleton University. Passionate about community service, Yang has dedicated nearly two decades to supporting newcomers, promoting cultural exchange, and advancing economic development within the Chinese Canadian community.

Ivan Hung
VP, Government Relationship & Outreach
Ivan Hung is President of the Brampton Chinese Business Association (BCBA), where he is dedicated to building strong bridges between Asia and North America and supporting business expansion across Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, and Canada.
He also serves as Advisor to the Toronto Chinese Canadian Film Festival and Vice President of Government Relations & Outreach for the Toronto Spring Festival. In the first-ever Toronto Spring Festival Fireworks Celebration at Toronto City Hall, Ivan played a key role in connecting government and community partners through his extensive networks and cross-sector collaboration, helping to ensure the success of this landmark event. Guided by a belief in the power of culture and cooperation, he is committed to fostering inclusion, civic pride, and lasting community connection.
Ivan believes that culture is the warmest language that connects people, and that collaboration is the most enduring force for social progress. Guided by this vision, he continues to promote mutual understanding, inclusion, and civic pride, and to help shape the Toronto Spring Festival into a signature celebration that reflects the city’s multicultural spirit while strengthening the bonds between communities and the wider world.

David Zhang
VP, Art & Performance
David Zhang is the Founder & Chair of Canada Performing Artists Network (CPAN). David has been involved in various cultural activities in the Canadian Chinese community. His outstanding leadership and multi-faceted artistic skills have contributed to his success as a renowned Director, Event Planner, and Producer of cultural performance events. Recent main works including: Chief Director of “Toronto Dragon Festival” from 2018 to 2024 for 5 occasions in a row; Art & Performance Director in the first Toronto Spring Festival.

Sonja Chong,
FCPA, FCA, TEP
Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, Sonja Chong is the founding partner of Sonja Chong Professional Corporation, CPAs (“SCPC”), and a seasoned tax practitioner.
Sonja has extensive experience in complex tax matters including structuring cross border investments, business succession and estate planning, tax planning for immigrants and emigrants, creative uses of trusts (resident and non-resident) and partnerships, and effective engagements with tax authorities.
Sonja was a member of the “Joint Committee on Taxation” of CPA Canada and the Canadian Bar Association. She served as a Governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation and co-chaired the Ontario Tax Conference. Sonja was an editor of the Carswell service "Taxation of Real Estate in Canada” and has presented on income tax matters in over 150 seminars.
Sonja was appointed by the Government of Canada and served on the Board of Directors of CBC/Radio-Canada from 2014 to 2016.
Sonja is the President of the Toronto Chapter of The Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (HKCBA) and leads WIN@HKCBA (Women's International Network). She is also the Immediate Past Chair of the National Office of HKCBA and remains a member of the National Executive Board.Sonja also serves as a director of The Association of Chinese Canadian Builders & Contractors (ACCC).

Wei Li,
Visual Art Director
Wei Li is a multidisciplinary artist and designer, currently serving as the Visual Art Director of the Toronto Spring Festival.
Wei Li has extensive experience in shaping brand identity and overall visual communication strategies. She successfully spearheaded the festival's visual branding, modernizing the presentation of traditional Lunar New Year celebrations for a global audience. Her distinguished portfolio is also highlighted by receiving the 2007 "Best Design Innovation Award" for her work designing the official 5-ounce gold commemorative coin for the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing. Throughout her career, Wei Li has been a strong advocate for the seamless integration of art, culture, and commerce.
Dedicated to empowering the creative community, Wei Li is the Founder of a++, an innovative initiative and facility designed to support, engage, and elevate artists.
Wei Li also serves as a Board Member and the Director of Visual Arts and Creativity at the NCCACC.
